A trackhoe is a machine with tracks typically used for excavating. A typical trackhoe or track hoe is equipped with a hydraulically operated arm in front for scraping and lifting up dirt to put into a dump truck or to move to a pile away from the construction or land clearing work area. Different attachments can be added to the trackhoe for digging trenches-these are called trenchers. Trackhoes are sometimes referred to as backhoes but this is not correct because a backhoe has a blade on the front for scooping up dirt and an excavator type bucket on the back which is called a backhoe because it pulls the dirt back towards the machine. Do not get trackhoes and backhoes confused as they are not the same machine. Backhoes have wheels while trackhoes have tracks and only one bucket for scraping on the front.
